ISTRIAN ASSEMBLY HALL

Events 0 comments

The long history of Poreč is engraved in the everyday life and culture of its residents. Many monuments are still used today for masses, concerts, exhibitions or other events that enrich the already dazzling local culture of the city. One of those monuments is definitely the gorgeous Istrian Assembly Hall that changed owners and purpose through history. Once a church and a monastery this fascinating building was built in the 5th century, bur more interestingly the ground floor has been turned into a wine cellar in which glass barrels have been installed and are protected to this day. Luxurious stucco and frescoes that decorate the ceiling, 25 meters long and 9 meters wide, have also been preserved in the hall of the Istrian Parliament. The stucco is the work of Bologna master Giuseppe Monteventia and will for sure take your breath away. Today, ceremonial sessions of the County Assembly are held in the Assembly Hall, as well as the musical event „Naš kanat je lip“ and the art exhibition „Annale“. More recently an early Christian floor mosaic was discovered in the courtyard of the Assembly, which just shows that Poreč is an inexhaustible source of interesting history and culture. Poreč is waiting for you to discover its beautiful scenery and history, while Boutique Hotel Melissa will provide you the best accommodation and make you feel like a true Porečanin.
