The oldest museum in Istria, the Heritage Museum of Poreč and Its Surrounding Area was founded in 1884. It is housed at the baroque Sinčić Palace which dates from the 18th century.
The museum houses more than 15000 exhibits from all the periods of human life in the Poreč area from the Palaeolithic era to the present. It is open every day and in it you can view prehistoric, ancient, medieval ethnographic collections and a collection from the national-freedom (anti-fascism) movement.
The museum is closed for visitors due to renovation of the building and creation of a new permanent exhibition. Professional staff is available to anyone interested on working days during office hours.
The Museum of Church Art is housed at the historical Diocesan building which dates from the 6th century, next to the Euphrasian Basilica. You can view the collection of stone monuments and original mosaics from the 4th and 5th centuries and a collection of sculptures and paintings from the 14th to the 18th centuries.
